Nutrition Research - What's In The Food You Eat

Watercolor of Beltsville Nutrition Center
There is a lot of information available about nutrition and many claims made about the efficacies of specific foods.  As with any topic, you need to read between the lines and vet your resources.

A good resource is the Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center which is a division of the USDA.  Founded in 1890, their mission is to define the role of food in "optimising human health and in reducing the risk of nutrionally related disorders in the diverse population."

The What's In The Food You Eat search tool on their website is a quick way to find out what nutrients are in familiar portion sizes of over 13,000 foods.
