Eat the Same Thing Every Day - It's good for you!

19th Street, Yangon, Burma

Too much choice is always overwhelming.  For some people, it stops them in their tracks.  Others use variety as an excuse to sample everything. Think buffets, or in Burma, an array of bite size bits on a stick on 19th St. in Yangon.

Foodies would say variety is the spice of life, and they go out of their way to indulge in "good food." But whether that means organic, or cuisines from different cultures, eating different options is an emotional habit and not grounded in the nutrient needs which a balanced diet will fulfill.

Eating the correct combination of foods is a diet theory that was called Natural Hygiene in the 1980's. In the controversial Fit for Life book series by  Harvey and Marilyn Diamond, the authors suggested that foods eaten in the wrong order cause a fermentation process that destroys nutrients.  Recent science supports this. Microbes extract the nutrients you need from foods and a symbiotic relationship is important. A new book The Microbiome Diet by Dr. Raphael Kellman advocates that a healthy microbiome, or intestinal health, should be the dieter's goal.

The same balanced meal with colorful foods rich in nutrients can be eaten ad nauseum. No muss, no fuss and less chance of overeating and intestinal upset.

If your daily dilemma is what to eat for dinner, eating the same foods every day is a solution for you.  To select a nutrient rich meal plan, use the US government daily food plan calculator.
