Safeway Tuscan Tomato Basil Bisque |
Today is so cold and dreary, despite the fact it's the middle of May, so I decided to have a cup of my favorite Safeway soup, the Tuscan Tomato & Basil Bisque. And since I am writing this blog about healthy eating, as I slurped, I read the nutrition facts on the back of the container.
You could say I almost choked. A one cup serving has 60% of calories from fat. The DV or daily value of saturated fat from this small meal was 55% and the DV of the sodium content was 37%. These figures are based on a daily consumption of 2000 - 2500 calories. Since this meal was lunch, I will definitely choose foods low in fat and sodium for dinner. Dietary trade-offs can work.

Ah, no wonder it was so yummy! I find that I often avoid prepared foods, even though they're tasty and oh-so-convenient, because I'm not as well versed in reading the labels as I'd like to be. Trading off between meals aside, do you have any rules of thumb or general guidelines for what is too much sugar, or fat, or sodium in a meal or entree?
